about

Ay Wing’s No Wonderwoman is table-flip anthem that celebrates the virtues of vulnerability and solidarity.

Featuring Oakland’s nationally-recognized rapper and poet Nappy Nina, who rhymes about her perspective as a queer black women.

A dazzling mélange of funk, percussion and signature synths, the single speaks to a new generation of feminists. Lyrically balking at societal pressures to be perfect (“I’ve sold all my capes but I’m doing fine”); it relishes authenticity in all its forms.

From writing to performance, the female helmed production is a manifesto that puts emerging female and queer talent on the map.

On another level, the lyrics and punchy beat are inspired by the idea that sometimes it can feel like we are doing it all on our own, carrying a heavy load and trying to be our own ‘wonder woman,’ when in reality we are just human beings doing our best in life.

lyrics

Life’s a mess

Full of craziness

Lost in your own movie

You can lie in bed

Wrapped in loneliness

A rockstar without her groupies

(I know), there are cracks in the ceiling

(I know), even if you don’t see them
(Makes you), question what you believe in
Why should I even care
(Then I), then I pick up the pieces
(Have faith), have faith when I need it
(Somehow), no I won’t be defeated
The answer’s always there

No Wonder Woman
Flying under the radar
But still flying high
No Wonder Woman
I’ve sold all my capes
But I'm doing fine
No Wonder Woman
(Don’t you worry)
(Don’t you worry)
No Wonder Woman
(Don’t you worry)
(Don’t you worry)
I’m doing fine

Been losing touch

Pulling back too much
Pressure changes everything
What’s behind this smile
Am I in denial

Cause it’s overwhelming me

(I know), there are cracks in the ceiling

(I know), even if you don’t see them
(Makes you), question what you believe in
Why should I even care
(Then I), then I pick up the pieces
(Have faith), have faith when I need it
(Somehow), no I won’t be defeated
The answer’s always there

No Wonder Woman
Flying under the radar
But still flying high
No Wonder Woman
I’ve sold all my capes
But I'm doing fine
No Wonder Woman
(Don’t you worry)
(Don’t you worry)
I’m doing fine
(Don’t you worry
(Don’t you worry)
I’m doing fine

(Uh, yes)

My worries warrant

More than your wanting a woman of wonder
In slumber I salvage the image

You made it your madness

Forgetting my manners

Trying my damnedest

Not to come damage

Tastefully manage

Don’t save a place for me

Or carve out space for me

Hold down my homies

Who know how this race can be

Powers and balance

I handle it gracefully

No Wonder Woman (ooh ooh ooh)
No Wonder Woman (ooh ooh ooh)
No Wonder Woman (ooh ooh ooh)
(Don’t you worry )
(Don’t you worry)
I’m doing fine
(Don’t you worry)
(Don’t you worry)
I’m doing fine
